Starmer Welcomes Extremist to the United Kingdom

Alaa Abd el‑Fattah’s Arrival in the UK & the Starmer Controversy

British‑Egyptian activist Alaa Abd el‑Fattah arrived in the UK in late December 2025 after Egypt lifted a long‑standing travel ban following his presidential pardon. Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly welcomed his return, saying he was “delighted” that Abd el‑Fattah had been reunited with his family.

Soon after the welcome, historic social‑media posts attributed to Abd el‑Fattah resurfaced — including comments describing Britons as “dogs and monkeys,” expressing hatred of white people, praising violence against police, and calling for the killing of Zionists. These posts, dating from 2008–2012, were widely condemned by Jewish organisations and Conservative MPs, who accused Starmer of showing poor judgment in celebrating his arrivalinews.co.uk

Downing Street stated that Starmer and senior ministers were unaware of the posts when they issued their welcome and described the comments as “abhorrent” once they came to light. Critics, including Robert Jenrick, demanded clarification and even called for Abd el‑Fattah’s deportation or loss of citizenship ~ Daily Express.
