Our Lady of La Salette, a significant Marian apparition, occurred on September 19, 1846, when the Mother of God appeared to two young shepherds, Melanie Calvat and Maximin Giraud, on the heights of the mountain of La Salette in France. During this extraordinary event, the Blessed Virgin conveyed both a public message and private secrets to the children.

Here are some of the warnings and prophecies associated with Our Lady of La Salette:

1. Defections of the Church: The Blessed Virgin emphasized that the Church’s defections would lead to an exemplary chastisement for the world. Many would abandon the faith, and priests and religious would dissociate themselves from true religion. Religious institutes would even lose faith entirely, endangering many souls. The Church would face a frightful crisis.

2. France and Italy: For a time, God would not remember France or Italy because the Gospel of Jesus Christ was no longer widely known. However, the prayers, penance, and tears of the just would ascend to heaven, leading to reconciliation and peace. Charity would flourish, and the Gospel would be preached everywhere.

3. General War: The prophecy also foretold that France, Italy, Spain, and England would be at war, with blood flowing in the streets. Frenchmen would fight against each other, as would Italians. This general war would be appalling.

4. Famine and Trembling Children: A great famine would come, and children under seven years old would experience trembling and death in their parents’ arms.

These messages serve as both a warning and a call to prayer, penance, and conversion. The faithful are urged to seek reconciliation with God and live in the fear of the Lord.
